Throwback Thursday – Charlotte’s Web

Happy Thursday!

Today’s Throwback Thursday read is the children’s classic Charlotte’s Web by E. B. White.  This book brings back memories of my own elementary school days.  This was one book that my third grade teacher loved.  She started the school year off with it as our first read aloud.  I also recall checking this book out at the library several times.

Still today, my own students enjoy taking this book off of my shelves and reading it.  It is a story about friendship and loyalty.  It also introduces children to the concept of death.  Charlotte’s Web is also the type of book that you interpret differently when you read it as an adult.  It truly is a great book.

Did you enjoy this classic as a child or adult?

Quotes

“Wilbur didn’t want food, he wanted love. He wanted a friend –someone who would play with him.”

“Your success in the ring this morning was, to a small degree, my success.”

“She was in a class by herself. It is o is not often that someone comes along who is a true friend and a good writer. Charlotte was both.”

  1. I have such an emotional tie to this book, it was an essential part of my childhood. One of the first books I remember being totally absorbed in. Love it, great choice!
