How I Met Alice Clayton – A Guest Post by Nina Bocci @ninabocci @Alice_Clayton

I’ve been following Nina Bocci and Alice Clayton via social media for several years and always wondered how this dynamic duo met and plotted their soon to be released book Roman Crazy.

Curious?  Here’s the scoop.

How I met Alice Clayton: A Lifelong Friendship

Guest Post by Nina Bocci

Way, way, way back in 2008, I got a message on FF.net from Feathersmmmm and it said something to the effect of, “Hey, I love your fic. It’s really funny. How about you read mine.”

It’s true, Alice and I were a part of the Twilight fandom and to be honest, not only are we not embarrassed by it, we’re forever grateful to Stephenie Meyer for the fade to black and for sending tons of us to ficland to find some dirty bits.

After those first few messages, a lifelong friendship was born. We talked every day. Emailed a gazillion times a week and we texted a ridiculous amount. The conversations were about everything, Twilight, Rob Pattinson, Peter Facinelli, why older dudes are better/worse, politics, food, pets and books. Lots and lots of books. It really didn’t matter what the topic was because we had a ton in common.

What’s funny, is that we didn’t physically in person meet until 2014 when we took a leap of faith and met for the first time. Not just met though, we decided to stay a full week up at The Mohonk Mountain House, Sleepy Hollow and NYC. It could have been a hot mess. We were both worried about what it would mean if we met and hated each other in person. It would have been devastating. This was solid friendship and it would have really just effing sucked.

Thankfully, within the first few minutes of me picking her up at LaGuardia, we knew that we would be lifelong friends. We spent the week researching and plotting and then planned a Disney World trip with our other two besties, Christina and Lauren AKA Christina Lauren. From there, we’ve had dozens of trips in just a short span of time and we’ve collectively left our mark on everywhere we’ve visited. Disney World, Disney Land, London, NYC, Chicago, San Francisco, and a dozen other spots. We’re hoping for a #CaptainHooker trip to Italia in 2017 ; )

I had someone tell me once that friends that you meet on the internet don’t last but, we’re here to tell you that not only can/do they last but that you can find your BFF hetero-lifemate online 😉

Thank you Nina for taking the time to write this guest post for my blog.  I’m glad you and Alice have become such wonderful friends.  I am excited and can’t wait to get my hands on Roman Crazy.

Avery Bardot steps off the plane in Rome, looking for a fresh start. She’s left behind a soon-to-be ex-husband in Boston and plans to spend the summer with her best friend Daisy, licking her wounds—and perhaps a gelato or two. But when her American-expat friend throws her a welcome party on her first night, Avery’s thrown for a loop when she sees a man she never thought she’d see again: Italian architect Marcello Bianchi.

Marcello was the man—the one who got away. And now her past is colliding with her present, a present where she should be mourning the loss of her marriage and—hey, that fettuccine is delicious! And so is Marcello…

Slipping easily into the good life of summertime in Rome, Avery spends her days exploring a city that makes art historians swoon, and her nights swooning over her unexpected what was old is new again romance. It’s heady, it’s fevered, it’s wanton, and it’s crazy. But could this really be her new life? Or is it just a temporary reprieve before returning to the land of twin-set cardigans and crustless sandwiches?

A celebration of great friendship, passionate romance, and wonderful food, Roman Crazy is a lighthearted story of second chances and living life to the fullest.

What’s In The Author’s Bag? Emma Chase Reveals…. @EmmaChse

what's in the author's bag banner for blog

Have you ever wondered what your favorite authors carry around in their bags?

Well, this segment on my blog will answer that question.

Emma Chase revealed the contents of her purse for all to see and explained why she carries them.

emma chase purse 1

Full disclosure: I might be cheating a little bit, because I just came back from vacation so bag is still “TSA approved for airplane security” much neater than it usual!

So, what’s in my bag?

emma chase purse 2

My iphone – don’t leave home without it (I never do)! My phone has my kindle app with loads of books, Twitter and FB apps, and of course email – I feel totally cut off from civilization if I don’t have my phone.

Sticky notes & pens – to jot down book ideas and dialogue as soon as they pop into my head (because if I don’t, I’m sure to forget them).

Extra contact lenses – because I’m blind as a bat.

Lip Gloss & Raspberry Rose Kiss Lip Butter – the only makeup I wear every day.

Gum – I’m an old school gum chewer. Juicy Fruit & Big Red are my favorites.

Sun Glasses – great for sunny days and even greater to rest on top of my head and push my hair back (hair in my face drives me crazy).

Hand Sanitizer – because I have kids and they still touch everything.

Receipts – usually from Starbucks (coffee needs to be a business expense).

Wallet – filled with more receipts, photographs and if I’m lucky, a few dollars.

French Lavender & Honey Body Spray – because smelling good makes me happy.

Thank you Emma for participating in this blog segment. I love your purse.  You have great taste too.  🙂

Ever wondered what’s inside your favorite author’s bag/purse/backpack?  Do they carry books, their iPads, coupons, inspirational pictures, etc.?

Kyra Davis revealed the contents of her purse for all to see and explained why she carries them.

Kyra Davis bag

Okay, from left to right:

1) I always carry a compact mirror, because in the age of camera phones you never know when you have to check to see if there’s spinach in your teeth.

2) I have my wallet for obvious reasons.

3) My phone that has my entire life on it from my schedule to my pictures to my music, ebooks, so on and so forth. I carry floss (see #1 for why)

4) La Mer lip balm, the best lip balm on EARTH

5) Nars lipstick in Tanganyka

6) Chanel Gossimer lipgloss in Scintillantes for when I want a little shine

7) L’Ocitane hand cream so my hands only age three times faster than my face, rather than ten times faster.

8) Allergy meds because you never know when a wind will pick up, blow some pollen in your face and drive you into sinus-pressure hell.

9) Hiding under my mirror is my Advil, for those times when the allergy meds aren’t enough to stave off a sinus headache.

10) Under all of it is a packet of kleenex because my allergies are the bane of my existence. It’s really very sad.

Ever wondered what’s inside your favorite author’s bag/purse/backpack?  Do they carry books, their iPads, coupons, inspirational pictures, etc.?

J.R. Gray revealed the contents of his bag for all to see and explained why he carries them.

jr gray bag

The first thing I always have with me is my iPad mini and keyboard. I never know when I’m going to want to write so I always haul it around.

I keep pens and sticky notes ready as well so I can make lists for Sal, which I rarely follow, and remind myself to do things. My phone is also filled with character notes.

Sun glasses. I think I’d die without them. I cannot see in Miami during the day unless I have my aviators on. (I’m a pilot it’s none toolish for me to wear them)

I have a backup battery in my bag. I kill my phone batter so fast.

Hand sanitizer – Don’t make fun of me. I’m as germaphobic as some of my characters.

My kindle. I hate reading on my ipad so I usually carry it.

Excedrin – I get migraines and this is my life savor.

I am realizing I have way too much crap in my bag. No wonder it’s so damn heavy. I’ll also throw paperbacks in it depending on what I’m in the mood to read. There are usually magnetic bookmarks and chargers as well.

Thank you JR for sharing the contents of your bag with your fans/readers.  As always, it is a pleasure interviewing you.

Well, Author Victoria Van Tiem reveals it all…..

Hi, my bag changes often depending on where I’m going, but the contents pretty much always stay the same. Today I have my bright and cheery yellow coach. I’ve had this bag for years, and although it’s seen better days I still adore it’s bright and cheery disposition.

Inside I always have the essentials: keys, wallet, shades and glasses. My iPad is a must so I can read whenever I’m stuck somewhere. Just finished Liane Moriarty’s What Alice Forgot (loved) & now I’m working through Lucy Robinson’s The Day We Disappeared. (So good!)

I also usually have snacks of almonds or carrot sticks, oh and Truvia packs. That way I can turn any tea into ‘sweet tea’. My diet’s extreme paleo (for health reasons) so I always need to have something.

Pac man and mustache pencil? I have no idea. They’re not even sharpened. At least the girl pen with pigtails works – I think.

Small makeup bag with essentials: mascara, blush and EOS lip balm. My phone’s stuffed in one pocket and my glass water bottle is usually in the other, and if I’ve been out recites would be floating about.

This reminds me of How to Lose a Guy in Ten Days when Mathew McConaughey and his team riffle through Kate Hudson’s purse. “Guys, a woman’s purse, it’s her secret source of power. There are many dark and dangerous things in there that we, the male species, should know nothing about.”

Curious about what I carry in my bag? Well here is a peek at those contents.
fabiola bag
I’m not one to carry lots in my purse, but I never leave the house without my wallet, hand sanitizer and lip balm.
I live in sunny South Florida so my sunglasses area must.
I also carry my tablet so I can read anywhere I go. Bookworm problems but you never know when you’ll have some time to spend with your current book boyfriend.
My phone also goes with me everywhere {along with my charger}. I love to be connected with readers all the time and my phone is  a big help for that. You can usually find me on Facebook or Twitter hanging out with readers and fellow authors.
Lipstick because a girl always needs some color on her lips.
And last but not least, I carry a journal so I can jot down notes for current projects or new ideas that pop into my head.
I’m out of the house a lot so these items help me to stay connected and continue to create stories for readers even when I’m not home.

Thank you Fabiola for participating and letting your fans/readers inside your purse.  Journals are popular for writers.  And, I too live in South Florida so I totally understand that we need our sunglasses. 🙂

What’s In The Author’s Bag? Debra Anastasia reveals it all… @Debra_Anastasia

what's in the author's bag banner for blog

Have you ever wondered what your favorite authors carry around in their bags?

Well, this new segment on my blog will answer that question.

Here’s what Debra Anastasia carries in her purse.

  debra anastasia image

Debra Anastasia revealed the contents of her purse for all to see and explained why she carries them.

Wallet: Has a book of stamps, all the necessary documents like my rabies shot records and whatnot.

List: Four crumpled up lists of things to buy at the store, because in my mind there is just sheer white noise and I’m very susceptible to store displays and shiny things. I need a guideline.

ID Tag: a crappy picture of me on a sparkly clip.  I don’t even need it anymore.

Little tissues. For the noses of my people.

Mints: For when my mouth tastes like ass.

Two glasses wipes. For glasses.

Two pairs of reading glasses. For the wipes.

Blister block stick. That’s sexy.

A maxi pad with a fucking face on it. Jesus.  maxi puppet

My best bro bracelet from Helena Hunting. Like Chandler and Joey? She’s Joey and I’m Chandler. She is always wearing hers and mine is always close, but not necessarily on. I’m sort of like a wild animal and I like to be unadorned. But then, when I have to be fancy I have my bracelet. This is too much information. I love my bro-celet. And my bro. Helena.

Two lips balms that ironically, Helena made for me. One from Fire Down Below and one from Poughkeepsie. They taste amazing so I snuck two into my bag at my last signing.

One single peanut (Always have to have a nut in my sack I guess.)

Random store bonus rewards cards -all with a broken hole punch from falling off my keys.

Two barrettes. See the bro-celet description.

One lipstick, Smashbox Infrared. This color is bad ass. And I wear it if I forget to wear my bra. Draws attention away from the nipples.

2 safety pins from my costume design months earlier this year.

1 dehydrated French fry tip.

3.2 pounds of loose change at the bottom.

Business cards.

1 purse hanger fancy thing for when you don’t want to put your adorable bag on the floor.

1 blue Sharpie

My ginormous iMattress (iPhone 6 plus) with a glittery case. I just got this after using the living shit out of my 4s.

Look at that! Half a stick of lifesavers. For when my meds give me dry mouth and I’m on the road and can’t drink water because we will have to take too many pee breaks.

Prescription: For toothpaste from the kids’ doc. I need to get that filled.

I knew you’d find one of those adorable maxi pads in there.  🙂

Thank you Debra for letting your fans/readers into your purse.  I knew the contents of your purse would be interesting.

xx ~Susi

What’s in the Author’s Bag? Jennifer and Morgan Locklear reveal… @MJLocklear @RandomCran

what's in the author's bag banner for blog

Have you ever wondered what is inside of your favorite author’s bag?  Well, Jennifer and Morgan Locklear share it all today on this week’s segment.  Enjoy!

jenn purse

Jennifer:

When it comes to my purse, I’m a minimalist. The less in there, the better and I’m always on a quest to find the smallest bag I can get away with.  I clean out my purse practically every morning before I leave the house because I can’t handle the prospect of toting around unneeded clutter, but there are a few items that are absolutely essential…

My wallet from London.  It was gifted to me and, all things considered, has held up remarkably well. My wallet is crammed full of business cards, gift cards, club cards, the recipe for a favorite alcoholic beverage, my driver’s license, my bank cards, some cash, a perpetual shopping list (why keep creating a list for the staples over and over again when I can be writing other things?) and a key card from the Heathman Hotel, which I must have forgotten to turn in to the front desk. Oops.

My keys.  I actually have two sets of keys – one for the car and one for everything else. I only displayed one set here because this keychain is a souvenir I bought during a trip to Canada a few years ago. Look closely and you might recognize the place I visited.

My EpiPen.  I have a severe peanut allergy that has landed me in trouble more than once.  After a particularly bad incident during my 20’s landed me in the ER overnight, my doctor told me the EpiPen would have to maintain a permanent residence in my bag. I’ve never had to use it, but I do admit it gives me peace of mind.

My Writing Journal and Pen.  My brain is always being bombarded with random bits of conversational exchanges. I found out the hard way that if I didn’t jot down notes right away, I’d forget the specifics later. I began carrying the journal with me so I can write moments down as soon as the inspiration hits. I don’t always know what my characters are talking about, but I record their thoughts and figure it out later. The journal helps me clear out my brain, kind of like how I clear out my purse. I honestly feel lost if I don’t have it nearby.

My Book of the Moment. This can either be a paperback or my kindle. There are several times a week when I’m just waiting somewhere for something, and those are perfect moments to pull out a book and read a few pages. Right now, I’m reading Days of Blood & Starlight, the second book in the Daughter of Smoke & Bone Series by Laini Taylor (a fellow Oregonian). My good friend, Mango, visited my home in April and brought this series to my attention when we visited Powell’s Bookstore in Portland.  It’s so good!

My Phone and My Charger. I can’t show you the phone because I used it to take this photo.  If my phone dies, so do I. Nuff said.

mog box

Morgan:

I don’t have a purse, of course, and my wallet doesn’t have much, so I chose to expose the little catch all box I keep on my night stand.  It’s a box my sister gave me for my 40th birthday that’s painted with a New York City subway map.  Mostly I keep fun stuff in there, a tin of Beatles guitar picks, some Star Wars Attack of the Clones film cells, a pocket knife, a mini flashlight, a cool Celtic sun bracelet I got in Hollywood when Jenn and I went to see a-ha in concert and a device called a monocular. It helps me see sporting events and other things when I am in a large crowd.

The CD is a digital copy of a fascinating book that was discovered a hundred years ago but no one can decipher.  It’s called The Voynich Manuscript and it is filled with drawings of plants both domestic and foreign to Earth.  It’s written in a language no one has ever seen before and also contains some amazing star charts.  This digital copy allows detailed analysis but I am no closer than the world’s top scientists in decoding the narrative.

I keep my keys and glasses in the box at night, and occasionally some Jolly ranchers.

Wow!  Jennifer carries lots of goodies in her bag.  I am looking forward to reading your next book.    Morgan, I love that you shared that personal box of yours with your fans/readers.

Thank you both for participating in this week’s post.

When my three sisters and I form an event-planning business with Hannah as our baker, I have no idea how my life is about to change. Here is a fantastic Guest Post on Co-Authoring.  Thanks to Kat and Stone for sharing!

Top 10 of Co-Authoring as Husband and Wife

What are our Top 10 of co-authoring as husband and wife?

  1. Laughter. Daily. Tons of hilarious moments make the writing process a blast.
  2. Healthy debates. One of us often felt strongly about something like a scene or marketing step. Great decisions were made when we fought for things we believed in.
  3. Creative banter. Knocking ideas around makes for fantastic improv scene creation.
  4. Teamwork. Writing is typically a solitary endeavor. The support of a writing partner in all areas, from writing and editing to promotion and administrative, is powerful.
  5. Demystifying Mars and Venus. We learn more about each other and the differences between men and women as we develop our characters.
  6. Sex scenes. Ummm… Yeah.
  7. Spending time together. Gone are the days where writing separates us. Now it brings us together.
  8. Splitting up and teaming up. Two minds can edit and blog post or write and send emails simultaneously. We also loved tackling various aspects like editing together, each bringing a valued opinion to decision making.
  9. Creativity 24/7. We can create anywhere and everywhere. Our iPhone Notes is well used.
  10. Keeping balance. We give each other gentle reminder to turn off the book thoughts. We write hard. Then we unplug and play hard.

How To Reprimand Your Rock Star

how to reprimand your rockstar

Thank you Mina for this awesome guest post.  I love athletes!  Yes, baseball pants are sexy too. ~Susi

Guest Post: The Allure of the Athlete

By Mina Vaughn

Whether or not you read romance, you have to agree: athletes are hot. I’ve always loved the image of sweaty, muscled men battling it out on some type of field. Hockey players, soccer players, baseball players, all and each have a special place in my heart. And damn, baseball uniform pants are pretty much the sexiest uniform ever, amirite?

But let’s talk about female athletes for a minute. I’ve rarely seen any in romance before, so when I thought of who would be a perfect match for my submissive rock star, Keaton Lowe, instantly I thought I’d love to write a female athlete.

Female athletes rock. Whether it’s kick-ass tennis players like Anna Kournikova and the Williams sisters, or Olympic skiers or volleyball players or lacrosse players, sporty chicks are hot and deserve their place in the romance world. When I thought about Thea, the heroine from How to Reprimand Your Rock Star, I really wanted to write about the college experience and what her sexual awakening as a domme would be like. To me, the pinnacle of women in college sports is of course the prolific UConn Huskies. They are a force of nature. Even if you don’t follow college basketball, you know that the UConn women are champs.

I think having a very fit Domme makes sense. She’s going to be using her body for both pleasure and possibly punishment, so I think Thea’s workouts will help her with that. I also think she’s intimidating, being a tall young woman. But she’s also young, naïve and really beautiful. I don’t think Dommes all need to be scary and intimidating, but I wanted Thea to have many facets to her.

I also think we live in a world where women play more sports than they used to, and I think this is a population that ought to be represented in romance. I want people to be able to cheer for Thea, not just for conquering Keaton, but in her own right as a basketball phenom.

Keaton’s turned on by Thea’s fire—the way she takes him down a peg, the way her face blushes when she’s angry, and her dominance on the court and off. The notion of a sexy heartbreaker of a rock star needing someone like Thea, a headstrong firebrand who doesn’t care who he is, was a huge turn-on for me. I love the fact that Keaton is worshipped by millions, but Thea doesn’t care. She’s got her head in the game and her eyes on the prize. Heroines who have personal stakes and goals outside of love interests are always my favorite, so I tried to make Thea strong in that respect. I hope people agree!

Let’s hear it for the boys and girls of the court, the field, and the rink! So, who are your favorite sexy athletes, and why?

Thanks for having me!
