About The Problem With Heartache

The problem with heartache is that there’s no one-size-fits-all relief package. You can go to classes; you can try to embrace change. But when you wake up at two in the morning, a smile on your face because you’ve dreamt about the could have—the should have—nothing will console you.

Because seconds later, you remember.

And remembering can rip you apart.

***

Kate will do anything for her family. It’s why she took the job with Lee. It’s why she’s attempting to forget her pain. But it’s hard to forget, when you’re desperate to hold on. Even if Lee Collins is the perfect package.

Lee will do anything for the ones he cares about. It’s why he hired Kate.

It’s why he keeps his secrets; and it’s why he cannot, will not fall in love. Not with Kate—not with anyone.

Ever.

The one thing he can’t forgive.

The one thing she can’t forget

“You. In.” She pointed to the room behind me, and I glanced over my shoulder.

“In there?” I smirked again, but her cheeks didn’t get any redder, to my astonishment. “Is now really the time?”

She pushed against my naked chest, her steely eyes fixed on my face the whole time, then slammed the door behind us with her foot.

“If you wanted some private time together, you just had to say so.” I joked, leaning back against the chair that was positioned in front of the mirror in my dressing room.

“You think this is funny?” Kate asked, her head tilted to the side.

“Actually … yeah.” I nodded and smiled again, not unkindly.

Kate looked down, and for one God-awful moment I thought she was going to cry.

Then, she did something better than crying. Holy mother of crap sticks, was this better than crying.

She raised her hands to the top of her black button-up shirt—and she undid the top button. Creamy, white skin is exposed, defined collarbones, teasing my eyes down to—

She undid another button. Holy fuck, what was Kate doing? Her cleavage heaved in front of me, and I got a hint, just a hint of her black lacy bra.

“It cannot be a coincidence that one man is shirtless in front of me six times in two weeks.”

I grinned. She’d counted.

That totally means she’s into it.

Then she did something that completely surprised me. Hell, it shocked the living daylight out of me. In one fluid movement, she grabbed the sides of her shirt and pulled, popping open her entire top and then shrugging it over her shoulders so she stood there in the world’s hottest black, lacy bra, skin-tight black denim jeans and these shoes—how the hell did I not notice them before?—that were red, high, and sexy as sin.

I swallowed. “So … this is a revenge …” Swallow, “… strip?”

“This is me, trying to do something to get you to pay attention and listen when I ask you to do something.” Kate’s voice was honey as it melted into me.

I raised my hand to the back of my neck and rubbed at the muscles there that had suddenly become tight with tension. “Oh, I’m paying attention, all right.” I widened my eyes. There was absolutely no doubt about that right now.

“Get back stage, Lee. Seriously. This is your last warning.”

I swallowed again, and felt the clamminess of perspiration beading my brow. Was it hot in here? It sure felt hot.

She stepped close to me, till her chest was almost touching my chest. Shit, she smelt like soap and hairspray and … apples. Delicious.

“I …” My gaze flicked to her lips, and I wondered if it would really be that bad if I kissed her. After all, that wouldn’t be promising her marriage, and maybe she’d be up for a casual thing. And her lips—they were so red, and plump, and—oh God, she just licked them with that sweet-as-hell little tongue, and—

The palm of her hand made contact with my face before I even registered her arm moving. Five elegant fingers stung my cheek and I jerked backward, clutching my face in pain. “What the hell?”

Kate walked over to where her shirt lay on the floor and picked it up, casually shrugging it on. She had the biggest shit-eating grin on her face, and I couldn’t help but give a little smile myself. I’d not seen her look so animated since she first boarded the bus.

“I told you it was your final warning,” she said, doing up her buttons, then turned to the door, wrenching it open and making a sweeping gesture with her arm, allowing me passage through. “Now, Mr Collins, if you please.”

“Thanks,” I mumbled, walking past her and out into the corridor. I passed Xander’s door, and a thought flashed through my mind. What if she stripped for all the guys to get them on stage? I couldn’t have her just—

“Lee?” The voice halted me in my tracks. I spun to face her.

She threw my black shirt at me. “Put some clothes on.”

About the Crazy in Love series

The Crazy in Love series consists of three titles: The Problem With Crazy, Eleven Weeks and The Problem With Heartache.

Catch up with The Problem With Crazy

The problem with crazy is that crazy, by itself, has no context. It can be good crazy, bad crazy … or crazy crazy—like it was when my ex-boyfriend sung about me on the radio.

Eighteen-year-old Kate couldn’t be more excited about finishing high school and spending the summer on tour with her boyfriend’s band. Her dad showing up drunk at graduation, however, is not exactly kicking things off on the right foot—and that’s before she finds out about his mystery illness, certain to end in death.

A mystery illness she is likely to inherit.

When your whole life goes from adventure and ecstasy to sad and suicidal, what’s the point? Not knowing who to love, and who to trust . . . where does it end?

The Problem With Crazy is a story about love and life; about overcoming obstacles, choosing to trust, and learning how to make the choices that will change your life forever.

About Eleven Weeks:

Seven shots

Five siblings

Two boys

One heartbeat …

***

Stacey is good at pretending.

`

She pretends that the boy she’s in love with doesn’t exist.

She pretends that she’s happy to live and die in this small town.

She pretends that her life is carefree while her best friend’s world crumbles before her very eyes.

But Stacey’s got a secret …

And it’s going to ruin everything.

Release Day – Filthy Beautiful Lust by Kendall Ryan @KendallRyan1

November is turning out to be quite a month. There are so many amazing books releasing back to back. Here is another.

Be sure to add  Filthy Beautiful Lust to your TBR.

Go ahead and one click it today! I just did. 🙂

From New York Times & USA Today bestselling author, Kendall Ryan, comes the third book in the Filthy Beautiful Lies series.

Pace Drake loves sex. He knows where get it, what to say, what to do, and he makes no apologies for satisfying his needs. But when he meets single mom, Kylie Sloan, he’s enthralled by her, and begins to question his standard operating procedure. After all, there’s no chase, no mystery when banging a woman in a nightclub bathroom. Kylie’s depth and determination make the sloppy, drunken hookups that fill his weekends seem empty and shallow. She’s the opposite of the desperate, clingy women he’s used to. She doesn’t want or need anyone to take care of her and that only makes him want to care for her more.

Kylie’s trust in men has vanished. The last guy she was with played ding-dong-ditch-it with her uterus and left her with a baby to raise. Now her infant son is the only man she has time for, even if she misses sex and intimacy more than she’d ever admit. Opening her heart up to a younger man who’s best known for no-strings-attached sex and his casual lifestyle is probably the worst idea she’s ever had. But Pace wants to prove to her there are still a few good guys left, and watching the sweet way he interacts with her baby makes her want to try…but she can really trust that his days of hitting it and quitting it are in his past?

Filthy Beautiful Lust is the third book in the Filthy Beautiful Lies series, however it can be read as a standalone novel (no cliffhanger). To understand the full growth and development of the characters, it is recommended that you begin with book 1, Filthy Beautiful Lies.

CHAPTER 1
PACE
I still recall that day in the pool last summer when I’d
taken the crying baby from her and entertained him all afternoon. I couldn’t
even be sure why I’d done it. I suppose, looking back, she just looked like she
could use a hand. I’ve never liked seeing a woman struggle. Although a damsel
in distress, she is not. I get the sense she’s not the type to back down from a
challenge and has enough strength and determination to succeed at just about
anything she tried. A sexy quality, to be sure.
As we stand there, me sipping my bourbon, and Kylie grinning
politely at the crowd, the silence between us grows. I feel like we have
nothing in common, and I’m at a loss, trying to think of something to say,
anything that will keep this beauty in my presence. There are so many things I
want to know about her, but none of them are any of my goddamn business. How
she tastes, what noises she makes when she comes. I also want to know how she
ended up a single mother, and if Max’s dad is still in the picture. I tried
asking Colton about it once, but he remained incredibly vague. The asshat. If
there was a worst wingman award, it would go to my brother.
“Have dinner with me this week,” I say. It wasn’t
what I’d been planning to say, but once the words leave my mouth, they feel
right.
“Pace, that’s sweet of you to ask, but I can’t…”
She pauses, like she wants to say more, but doesn’t. Her body language is all
wrong too. Where women are normally vying to get closer, placing their hand on
my bicep, or even brushing their breasts against my arm, Kylie stands straight
and tall, like she wants to avoid physical contact at all costs.
“Are you here with someone?” I ask. It’s also
absolutely none of my business, but I’d happily shell out ten grand just to
find out if she’s fucking someone.
“No,” she confirms.
“No boyfriend?” I press further. I need to know
what I’m up against.
“There’s been no one since Max’s father,” she says
quietly.
My inner alpha male beats on his chest in triumph.
“That’s quite a dry spell.”
“Indeed,” she murmurs.
“It’s just dinner, Kylie. It’s not like I’m offering to
step in and play daddy.” I treat her to a playful, crooked smile, my
dimple out in full force. I’ve heard it’s quite irresistible and that’s what
I’m banking on.
“That’s exactly why I can’t. I’m sorry.”
Fuck. Why am I such a fucking idiot?
“Oh,” I stammer, at a loss for words for the first
damn time in my life. Christ. Grow a pair, Pace.
“Besides, something tells me if you’re interested in a
woman like that,” Kylie tips her chin toward the bar where Sheena, or
Trina, is making a spectacle of herself, “you can’t possibly be interested
in a woman like me.”
Hold the fuck on. Now that’s where she’s wrong. “Why’s
that?” I ask, meeting her fiery green gaze. If she’s about to criticize
herself, I will not hold back in proving to her how very wrong she is.
“Pace,” she admonishes. “Look at her. They
look…inflatable.”
When I realize she’s not tearing herself down, but instead
chastising my taste in women, I almost want to laugh. “A woman like that
is good for only one thing and we both know it,” I say.
She raises her eyebrows, waiting for me to explain.
“One good fuck,” I continue.
“You’re crass.” Her eyes light up, and her mouth
twitches in an attempt not to smile.
“I’m direct, and you like it.”
She shrugs. “At least you’re honest. That’s more than I
can say for most men.”
“Go out with me. One time, Kylie. What do you have to
lose?”
I can practically see the wheels turning in her head, and for
one brief, beautiful moment I think I might have a chance. “Bye
Pace.” She turns and walks away, her long legs carrying her across the
room while my heart throbs.
Fuck.
“Kylie, wait.”
She turns and tosses me a sexy wink. “Go have fun with
Malibu Barbie.
This is not over.

I play to win.

EXCERPT

Ian glanced around the now empty room before speaking. “I realize I’m in no position to
judge relationships in the work place.”

Hell no, considering Ian had pursed his now-wife, Riley, brought her into the business,
and promoted her, Dylan thought.

As for Olivia … “There is no relationship.”

“But you want there to be one. And my sister isn’t cooperating. Am I right?”

When Dylan didn’t reply, Ian continued. “I saw you two in the hallway. At the party.”

Dylan blew out a long breath. “Not that I owe you an explanation but nothing happened.” He
ran a hand over his goatee, buying time.

“Bullshit. I saw the kiss.”

Dylan inclined his head. “Fine.”

He knew Ian was overprotective of his sisters. He even understood the man’s reasons. For
that reason alone, Dylan wouldn’t lose his temper now.

“Look, you’re my friend. More than that, I respect you as my boss. But whatever is or
isn’t going on with me and Olivia … that’s none of your business.”

Ian eyed him through his infamous narrowed gaze, assessing him, causing Dylan to
straighten his shoulders and meet his stare head on.

Ian cleared his throat. “My sister is tough on the outside but she’s … more fragile
inside,” he said, clearly considering his words carefully.

“Your point?” Dylan asked the other man.

“Don’t play with her head or her heart.”

Dylan inclined his head. Unknowingly, Ian had just reaffirmed that whatever kept
Olivia at arms length, it had nothing to do with business. If anything, she
felt too much or she wouldn’t have run.

“We good?” Ian asked.

“Always.”

“Then good luck in Hawaii,” Ian said, turned and walked out the door, leaving Dylan alone
to strategize his next step.

Dylan wasn’t the type to give up on something he wanted. He’d been too soft with Olivia,
giving her space, figuring she’d give in to chemistry eventually. Obviously
that wasn’t going to happen. He needed to take control and should have done it
sooner. Where better than the tropical paradise of Hawaii to make his
intentions crystal clear.

Yes they were going to Hawaii on business, but she was interested in enjoying the
island. They were staying in the same hotel and attending the same events. That
added up to opportunity and Dylan wasn’t above taking advantage if it meant
getting what he wanted. And he wanted Olivia.

Excerpt #1

I take a step to the side when the elevator chimes, stopping on the fifth floor. The doors open to the most gorgeous man I’ve ever laid eyes on. He’s a tall, dark brown haired angel wearing a perfectly tailored charcoal grey suit with a crisp white shirt and a grey striped tie with his hands in his pockets. His clean shaven, chiseled jawline shifts slightly when his lips curl into a sexy knowing smile, creating dimples that ignite an ache between my legs. My breath catches at the most mesmerizing set of azure blue eyes piercing into me. This man knows his eyes are capable of giving women multiple orgasms with just one look, and he’s not afraid to use them.

He steps in giving me a slight nod. “New here?” he asks, his voice silky.

I blink, realizing I’ve just been busted staring…at his mouth, his eyes, his drop dead gorgeous face. He probably thinks I’m a creep. Before I can answer, the smell of his woodsy mandarin cologne mixed with soap engulfs my body provoking succulent thoughts. It’s enticing and sexy, and I want it all over me and my sheets.

“Yes, sir,” I say on unsteady legs.

“Welcome to the company. I’m sure I’ll see you around.” He smirks as he exits the elevator, knowing damn good and well what he’s doing. The heat that spread throughout my body, I now feel on my cheeks.

I say nothing. I can’t. My poor brain can’t form words. My lungs hurt from the lack of oxygen, and my mouth is slack jawed. Dammit.

Excerpt #2

As I’m thumbing through the papers in my hands, the elevator doors slide open. Before I can even look up, I run right into a solid wall of muscle making me spill my coffee.

“Oh! I’m so sorry.” I wipe away the droplets of coffee on the blue jacket. “I didn’t mean to spill my coffee on…” When my eyes find their way up to the pleasant face of the suit’s owner, I’m mortified. Out of all the employees that work here, I’ve run into Mr. Eye Candy from the elevator yesterday. “You?” I exhale.

Excitement flickers in his blue eyes. Dimples appear from a victorious smile. My insides clench.

“I knew I needed coffee this morning,” he chuckles, not easing my embarrassment one bit.

“I really am sorry.”

He steps into the elevator, turning around with a megawatt, sexy as hell smile and a wet coffee stain, “No worries.”

I shake my head when the doors close eliminating the incredible view of him. “Seriously? That just happened.” I tell myself under my breath. Over slept, then practically scalded Mr. Eye Candy into a wet suit contest…this day cannot possibly get any worse.

My Favorite Lines- Dream Cast and Giveaway for One Funeral by @KatBastion and @StoneBastion

My Favorite Lines & Dream Cast

One Funeral by Kat and Stone Bastion

One Funeral, Book 2 in the No Weddings Series is live.  I had a chance to read this gem and review it prior to the release.  One Funeral is a 5 star read that I highly recommend.  Just like No Weddings, Book 1, this book is simply perfect.  I fell in love with the characters in the first book, but Cade… he totally won me over in this book.  You can read my 5 star review here.

As we navigate through our tangled feelings, we vow to take it slow. Yet no matter how careful we try to be, things between us intensify—and there’s nothing we can do, or want to do, to stop it.

But the biggest question remains: Is chemistry enough to move beyond the past and toward a future together?
