From the New York Times bestselling author of the Gabriel Series comes a dark, sensual tale of romance in a city shrouded in mystery…

Raven Wood spends her days at Florence’s Uffizi Gallery restoring fine works of Renaissance art. But an innocent walk home after an evening with friends changes her life forever. When she intervenes in the senseless beating of a homeless man, his attackers turn on her, dragging her into an alley. Raven is only semi-conscious when their assault is interrupted by a cacophony of growls followed by her attacker’s screams. Mercifully, she blacks out, but not before catching a glimpse of a shadowy figure who whispers to her…

Cassita vulneratus.

When Raven awakes, she is inexplicably changed. She returns to the Uffizi, but no one recognizes her and more disturbingly, she discovers that she’s been absent an entire week. With no recollection of the events leading up to her disappearance, Raven also learns that her absence coincides with one of the largest robberies in Uffizi history – the theft of a set of priceless Botticelli illustrations. When the baffled police force identifies her as its prime suspect, Raven is desperate to clear her name. She seeks out one of Florence’s wealthiest and elusive men in an attempt to uncover the truth about her disappearance. Their encounter leads Raven to a dark underworld whose inhabitants kill to keep their secrets…

The unveiling of a set of priceless illustrations of Dante’s Divine Comedy at the Uffizi Gallery exposes the unsuspecting Professor Gabriel Emerson and his beloved wife, Julianne, to a mysterious and dangerous enemy.

Unbeknownst to the Professor, the illustrations he secretly acquired years ago were stolen a century earlier from the ruler of Florence’s underworld. Now one of the most dangerous beings in Italy is determined to reclaim his prized artwork and exact revenge on the Emersons, but not before he uncovers something disturbing about Julianne …

Set in the city of Florence, “The Prince” is a prequel novella to “The Raven,” which is the first book in the new Florentine Series Trilogy by Sylvain Reynard.

The Prince” can be read as a standalone but readers of The Gabriel Series may be curious about the connection between The Professor’s world and the dark, secret underworld of “The Prince.”

One Funeral (No Weddings #2)

by Kat and Stone Bastion

one funeral cover

The stakes climb higher in this second book in the No Weddings Series for Hannah Martin, a woman restrained by her past, and Cade Michaelson, the man who could help set her free.

I’m drawn to Cade as he charms his way into more of my life and offers me something I truly haven’t ever had: a friend. Yet his humor, patience, and drop-dead sexiness take my breath away, and I know my heart is at risk. I want to move forward but am terrified I can’t.

Cade seems to have it together from his own devastating heartache. His subtle actions, however, suggest a different story. And even though he says he wants more, I wonder if he’s able to trust in our developing relationship.

As we navigate through our tangled feelings, we vow to take it slow. Yet no matter how careful we try to be, things between us intensify—and there’s nothing we can do, or want to do, to stop it.

But the biggest question remains: Is chemistry enough to move beyond the past and toward a future together?

My Review

I am thrilled to share this next review!   I recently finished reading One Funeral (No Weddings #2) by the dynamic duo Kat and Stone Bastion.  I absolutely floved this book!

One Funeral picks up right where No Weddings ends.  I love it when authors continue their stories this way.  I couldn’t wait to read more about Hannah and Cade.  In One Funeral, Hannah and Cade are still working out their previous relationship woes.  Both have been heartbroken in the past and are slowly learning to trust and love again.  Their attraction and slow courtship in this book steamed up my tablet for sure.

Their chemistry is evident in No Weddings and as you will read, becomes combustible in One Funeral.  I think this is what I loved the most about this book.  You see, I have enjoyed the pace.  Kat and Stone have done a brilliant job of keeping the reader hooked on their story. This slow progression of Hannah and Cade’s relationship was exceptionally written.

No Weddings was written in Cades POV and it was perfect.   Now, we get to read Hannah’s POV,  which I found to be quite refreshing.  I guess you could say that I was reading/living vicariously through Hannah in this book.  I was also her greatest cheerleader.

Additionally, I love how Hannah and Cade’s routine, established in No Weddings continues.  It was an important part of that story for Hannah and continues in this book as well.  The moments at Cade’s house for dinner with his friends, time at his sisters’ home, as well as those early moments in the bake shop play a significant part in their slow courting.

Their party planning continues and you will enjoy reading about their latest events in One Funeral.  Just wait until you attend the funeral with Hannah and Cade, it is quite a funeral.

Cade… what can I say?  I absolutely love him!  He is sexy, has a witty and dirty mouth and well… has other important assets you will discover once you read.  All of those qualities make him an awesome character in this series.  I loved their “non-dating” in this story as well as how Cade slowly revealed and demonstrated his feelings for Hannah.  He continues to mentor Hannah with his business skills and earns his MBA too.

Cade’s sisters and his friends continue to nourish their “non-dating” in this book. And, even Cade’s parents make their appearance as well.

I was thrilled to read that Hannah got to make her famous cake she was experimenting with in No Weddings.  Look out for the dragon cake.

Are there any love scenes in this book?  Ahhh…. yeah!  And, all I can say is you will totally love Cade even more. Whoa…..

One Funeral was an exceptional read and one that I highly recommend.   I am looking forward to reading the next book in this series, Two Bar Mitzvahs.  I am hooked!

I gave this book 5 brilliant stars!

Stay tuned for another post on release day featuring my favorite lines from this book and my cast for this book series.  I have a feeling you will enjoy that post.

I received and ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Award-winning author Kat Bastion teams with her husband, Stone Bastion, in this first book in the No Weddings Series about Cade Michaelson, a successful man with his sights set on a new venture in business, and Hannah Martin, the woman who makes it personal.

I think I have my act together as a successful bar owner, my master’s degree within reach, and a list of no-strings-attached women warming my bed. Turns out, I don’t.

Hannah believes she has safeguarded her wounded heart by shunning men and focusing on her new baking business. The thing is, she hasn’t.

When my three sisters and I form an event-planning business with Hannah as our baker, I have no idea how my life is about to change. As Hannah and I work closely together, the attraction between us becomes irresistible. And complicated. I’ve promised my sisters I wouldn’t mix business with pleasure. Here is a fantastic Guest Post on Co-Authoring.  Thanks to Kat and Stone for sharing!

Top 10 of Co-Authoring as Husband and Wife

What are our Top 10 of co-authoring as husband and wife?

  1. Laughter. Daily. Tons of hilarious moments make the writing process a blast.
  2. Healthy debates. One of us often felt strongly about something like a scene or marketing step. Great decisions were made when we fought for things we believed in.
  3. Creative banter. Knocking ideas around makes for fantastic improv scene creation.
  4. Teamwork. Writing is typically a solitary endeavor. The support of a writing partner in all areas, from writing and editing to promotion and administrative, is powerful.
  5. Demystifying Mars and Venus. We learn more about each other and the differences between men and women as we develop our characters.
  6. Sex scenes. Ummm… Yeah.
  7. Spending time together. Gone are the days where writing separates us. Now it brings us together.
  8. Splitting up and teaming up. Two minds can edit and blog post or write and send emails simultaneously. We also loved tackling various aspects like editing together, each bringing a valued opinion to decision making.
  9. Creativity 24/7. We can create anywhere and everywhere. Our iPhone Notes is well used.
  10. Keeping balance. We give each other gentle reminder to turn off the book thoughts. We write hard. Then we unplug and play hard.

Release Day Launch Excerpt

Please enjoy a sexy kitchen encounter between Cade and Hannah…

Her eyes narrowed for a split second as she pulled out a large pan with two hands. “This is not even close to a date. What would you suggest instead, a notepad and pen?”

I leaned a hip on the far counter, watching her light the stove and drop a large tablespoon of solidified coconut oil into the pan. “Would you be wearing those sexy librarian glasses?”

She raised her brows. “You think my glasses are sexy?”

Leaning up on her tiptoes, she reached for and pulled down a glass container full of popcorn kernels from a cabinet beside the stove. A few hundred kernels pinged into the pan before she replaced the lid. With both hands, she lifted the pan a few inches above the gas burner and gave it a good shake before resting it back down.

The response to her question demanded her full attention, so I waited. She turned, leaning back on her counter edge. We faced each other, her island between us. The few feet may as well have been inches with the way the air was charged between us.

I gave her a heated stare.

Her breath caught, her chest expanding.

Which caused my cock to twitch. I began to feel like one of Pavlov’s dogs.

You are sexy.” I held her gaze captive. “Therefore, anything you wear becomes sexy.”

She smirked. The power she knew she had over me emboldened her. “Even my apron?”

I inhaled, remembering that ruffled apron, her thin T-shirt and short shorts hiding underneath. “Sexy as fuck.”

A kernel popped.

She swallowed. “‘As fuck?’”

I nodded. “Doesn’t get any sexier than that.”

A slight tilt of her head, and Hannah began to play. “What if I wore a potato sack?”

I snorted. “Do you own a potato sack?”

She crossed her arms, shaking her head.

My eyes were drawn down to that tempting cleavage. I took my sweet time dropping my gaze down her body, imagining her in a potato sack.

Pops sounded out. One after another. Faster and faster, like my pulse going out of control. Hannah began shallow breathing under the intensity of my stare.

“I would love to see you in a potato sack. Just like I’d love to see you in lingerie. To me, they’re both the same.”

She laughed, then turned quickly, grabbing the heavy pan with both hands and giving it another hard shake. When she turned around again, she resumed her stance in the same place, back to the counter.

This was another dance—a different location, a more enticing rhythm, but a dance all the same. Two partners circled each other, deciding how long to draw out the beginning steps before pulling each other even closer.

“How can they both be the same? You’d find me equally sexy in either?”

A deep inhale was the only thing I could do to clear my mind, keep me sane. That, and the white-knuckled grip I had on the edge of her counter, holding me immobile, keeping me from launching at her and showing her just how sexy I found her.

I tilted my face down, holding her gaze beneath my lowered brows. “Hannah, you have no idea. Whatever you think you do to me, magnify it. I don’t see you in anything. I just see you. And if you’re ever brave enough to wear a potato sack for me, wear nothing else underneath.”

The popping slowed. Her attention was needed at the stove at that critical point.

She didn’t move. “Why?”

“Because I’ll shred it and have you naked in three seconds flat. Might as well save the lingerie.”

My Review

I am so excited to share this review with all of you.  No Weddings is my favorite Summer read!

No Weddings is a cleverly written story told in the male point of view.  I am a huge fan of male POV.  I love getting into the mind of the male protagonist.  Kat and Stone, your male POV was simply perfect!

So how can I best explain how I feel about this book?  Here goes…

The perfect recipe is made up of  fresh ingredients, creativity, attention to details and passion (the love of the craft) which stirs the emotions, the taste buds, and allows you to enjoy the dish. Your story, No Weddings is just like that perfect recipe.  No Weddings has all of the right ingredients, well written characters, a touching and entertaining story line, passion (which most definitely stirred my emotions) and the right attention to detail (through the delicious male point of view) which allowed me to enjoy this story so much.

Your cast of characters were all cleverly written.  Cade and Hannah, I totally love them.  Hannah is a beautiful baker, need I say more?  Cade, he is the delicious business savy male lead.  Cade’s three sisters and his roommates/friends each bring something different into the book.  They are like the little dash of this or that added to a recipe to make it taste better.  All together, these characters complete this fine book.

On a personal level, I connected with this story because I can relate with so many things.  Catering, party planning and baking are all part of my life.  I do however wish I had my own Cade giving me business advice.

This entertaining story will leave you feeling hopeful. I don’t want to give too much away in this review.  You need to read this gem for yourself.  Trust me, you will love this book.  I am looking forward to the next book in this series.  And as for Cade, he has officially been added to my list of book boyfriends.

No Weddings is filled with humor, family, heartbreak, cupcakes, cakes, charity, romance and hope.  All of these topics combined made this a fantastic read that I highly recommend.

Congrats to Kat and Stone on a fantastic collaborative debut!

I gave this book 5 delicious stars!

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

My Review

I was first introduced to Alice Clayton with Wallbanger, the first book in this series.  Wallbanger was actually my birthday present.  It was waiting for me on my Kindle when I awoke.  I have to say, Simon for my birthday was a pretty sweet gift.  From that moment on, I became a huge Alice Clayton fan.  I loved Wallbanger but let me tell you, Rusty Nailed hits it way out of the park.

Rusty Nailed is such a perfect read.  There are so many reasons why I love it.  First of all, the characters in this story are all amazing. Caroline, Simon, their friends, and finally, Clive, my favorite cat, are a unique blend of personalities that make this story all the more entertaining. They each bring this story to life in their own ways, each adding sprinkles of perfection.

I also loved the location where this story takes place.  I visited Sausalito with my husband and it was one of the best trips I have ever had.  I love this place!  The Bay Area is the perfect setting for this romantic tale.  Both with Wallbanger and Rusty Nailed,  I was really able to picture all of the places detailed in the book. So as you can see, the story truly came to life for me.

Additionally, I bake, and I too have a relationship with my KitchenAid mixer.  So I can totally relate to Caroline and her taste in appliances and kitchens!  This is another reason why I think it is totally awesome.

The story… I floved it.  Caroline and Simon have been together and their relationship is going strong. In this story, their relationship evolves. There are plenty of laugh out loud moments and the right amount of romance and sexy moments too. After all, Simon and his hammer… 🙂 Whoa…

Caroline’s career advances.  Her job becomes more demanding and finding that perfect balance is key for both of them. Between the job, house sitting, the reunion, their friends and Clive, this story is packed with awesome from beginning to end.

Simon, he continues to be sexy, swoon-worthy and oh so hot.  It was great to watch him grow in this book too.  He gets better and better.  Trust me!  Just like Caroline, we also learn more about Simon.  There is a tenderness about him that I totally admired in this book.

We get a little more than a glimpse into the lives of their friends we met in Wallbanger.  I can’t wait to read more about them in the next book.

And Clive, I don’t want to spoil this by telling you too much, but you will love Clive in this book.  He truly is a special character.

So, if you haven’t read Wallbanger yet, you need to get to it right away.  While you are add it, get Rusty Nailed too.  Both books make perfect summer reads.

Grab a drink, a Wallbanger maybe, and your books and enjoy this fantastic series.

Alice, you are truly a talented woman.  You write the best romantic comedies.  Thanks for bringing readers like myself so much joy.

I gave this book 5 stars!!

MY FAVORITE QUOTES

“He bent over the back of sofa inside my apartment and removed my panties. With his Teeth.
With his mother-loving teeth! I can’t even!

Romance novels, schmomance novels, here’s how Wallbanger does it”

“So, are you going to say hi to your boyfriend who flew all the way across the globe just to show you his hammer, or are you going to punch me again?”

“Dirty talk is an art. Do it too often, and it becomes routine. Never do it, and you’re missing something. Simon did it just right. He was like a perfect bowl of smutty porridge: just right.”
