Interview with Author J.R. Gray
I love to interview authors and today and I thrilled to showcase J.R. Gray, the author of Legally Bound, Breach of Contract and Illicit Activity.
Susi: How long have you been writing?
JR Gray: I’ve been writing since I was seven.
Susi: When did your passion for writing begin?
JR Gray: At about the same time I started writing. I needed a place to put all the characters in my
Susi: How many books have you published?
JR Gray: Three
Susi: Are all of your books BDSM? Are you interested in writing any other genres?
JR Gray: I finished two books before Legally Bound, neither are BDSM. I love BDSM but I’ve always been more drawn to Sci-Fi and Fantasy. The book I recently finished is New adult Sci-fi. I plan to publish in those genres as well as continuing with BDSM.
Susi: What books are you currently working on?
JR Gray: I am working on Damages Incurred, which is the third book in the Bound series, as well as a Genderbent Cinderella.
Susi: When do you write? Any specific routines?
JR Gray: I write in the mornings and then edit at night.
Susi: When not writing, what are your hobbies or interests?
JR Gray: I like to play water polo and run as well as read.
Susi: What inspires you to write? Music, a muse?
JR Gray: I listen to music when I write, but it’s not a muse. I take my inspiration from everything around me, conversations, things I’m reading or watching, real events, and of course my favorite are the ideas that hit me randomly as I’m about to fall asleep or in the shower.
Susi: How long does it generally take you to write a book?
JR Gray: Each book is different for me. Breach of Contract took me two months. But I have written some in less than a month.
Susi: Describe a typical writing day for JR Gray.
JR Gray: Wake up, run, lots of tea or coffee and writing.
Susi: There has been a recent explosion in the genre of erotic/bdsm. What are your thoughts on this?
JR Gray: I think it’s great. It has pushed a once frowned upon taboo practice into mainstream. It’s not looked at as weird or abusive anymore. People should be proud of who they are and what they enjoy, not embarrassed by it.
Susi: Do you have any advice to offer to any writers wanting to get into this genre?
JR Gray: Practice makes perfect, as with everything else in life. The more you write the better you’ll become. And if you don’t know BDSM well, research!
Susi: Many writers use a pseudonym for writing. Do you?
JR Gray: I do, although the J.R. are my real first two initials.
Susi: What is your biggest mistake as a writer?
JR Gray: Going against my gut with edits. After all, they are only suggestions.
Pet Peeve: Over description
First thing you notice about a person: How they speak and then eyes.
Hidden talents: I can fight properly with any sword you put in my hand. Yes I am a nerd.
Prized possession: It’s the heart and trust of someone who loves me, and it’s worth more than anything material.
Currently Reading: – The Winter Prince by Elizabeth Wein
Fave drink: Iced tea
Fave TV Show: The Walking Dead

Thank you JR for letting me interview you. It’s always fun to get to know authors better. I look forward to reading more of your writing in the future. To show my appreciation, I’ve got some wicked Créme de Vie with your name on it. ~Susi
